Child Care Worker

Position Title: Child Care Worker
Job Summary: A child care worker is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children under their care. They assist in the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of children while maintaining a positive and
engaging atmosphere.

Responsibilities:
-Supervision and Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
-Monitor activities and play to prevent accidents and address any safety concerns
promptly.
-Daily Care: Assist with feeding, diapering, and maintaining proper hygiene routines for children. Help children with dressing, toileting, and other personal care tasks as needed.
-Educational Activities: Plan and organize age-appropriate educational and recreational activities, including arts and crafts, games, storytelling, and music, that promote cognitive, social, and physical development.
-Curriculum Implementation: Follow established curriculum or guidelines to create learning opportunities that align with the developmental needs of the children.
-Behavioral Guidance: Provide positive guidance and discipline techniques to manage challenging behavior and encourage positive social interactions among children.
-Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding their child’s daily activities, progress, and any concerns that arise.
-Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of children’s activities, behavior, and developmental milestones. Document any incidents, accidents, or noteworthy observations.
-Collaboration: Work closely with other child care staff to ensure a cohesive and collaborative environment. Coordinate with teachers, assistants, and other professionals as needed.
-Health and Safety: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including sanitation, cleanliness, and emergency procedures. -Administer basic first aid and address minor injuries when necessary.
-Parent Involvement: Foster positive relationships with parents/guardians,
involving them in the child’s learning and development journey. Provide feedback and insights on a child’s progress.

-Professional Development: Stay updated on current trends and best practices in
early childhood education. Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in early childhood education or related field is a plus.
● Previous experience working with children in a similar capacity is preferred.
● Knowledge of child development principles, age-appropriate activities, and behavior management techniques.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in dealing with children and parents.
● Patience, creativity, and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of children.
● Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
● First aid and CPR certification may be required.

Physical Requirements: Child care work often involves physical activity, including bending, kneeling, lifting, and playing with children. Workers should be able to respond
to emergencies quickly and handle the demands of a dynamic environment.
Working Conditions: Child care workers typically work indoors in childcare centers, preschools, or private homes. The work hours can vary and may include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends, depending on the facility’s operating hours.

Position Summary
Delivers excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. Responds to member and guest needs, promotes memberships and programs, and maintains cleanliness and organization of the pool deck.

Essential Functions
1. Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y.
2. Builds positive relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and the YMCA.
3. Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
4. Applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services.
5. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
6. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
7. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
8. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
9. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
10. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
11. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.

Service Skills
1. Follow the staff dress code for position.
2. Greet members and guests.
3. Show interest in their concerns.
4. Make members feel comfortable and at ease.
5. Be open, friendly and approachable.

Qualifications
1. Hold a current (or be willing to obtain) an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
3. Excellent interpersonal ad problem solving skills.
4. Minimum age of 15.
5. Reliable transportation.
6. Ability to maintain certification-level or physical and metal readiness.

Position Summary
Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes. To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Essential Functions
1. Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
2. Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
3. Encourages member and parent involvement.
4. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.
5. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
6. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
7. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
8. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
9. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
10. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
