Swim lessons meet once a week for 30 minutes for 6 or 8 weeks (depending on the session).

The cost of swim lessons are $30 (6 weeks) or $40 (8 weeks) for YMCA members and $60 (6 weeks) or $80 (8 weeks) for community members.

Swim lesson class schedules varies from session to session.

Water Discovery/Acclimation (ages 3 mo. – 3 yrs)

Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. Each child must have one parent or guardian present in the water for this class.

 

Preschool Swim Stages (ages 3 -5 yrs / Stages 1 – 4)

Stage 1 (Beginner)  Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into water. This stage lays the foundation that allows for a student’s future progress in swimming. Students focus on breath control, swimming on front and back and water safety. All skills are performed with assistance from the instructor or a flotation device.

Stage 2 (Advanced Beginner)  Students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing how to safely exit in the even of falling in. All skills performed without assistance of an instructor or flotation device.

Stage 3 (Intermediate)  Students learn how to swim to safety from longer distances that in previous stages. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action. All skills are performed independently by the student.

Stage 4 (Advanced)  Students in this stage develop stroke technique in front and back crawl and learn breaststroke and butterfly kick. Water safety in reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

 

School Age Swim Stages (ages 6 – 12 yrs : Stages 1 & 2 – Stage 5)

Stage 1 and 2 (Beginner) Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into water. Students focus on body position and control, directional change, breath control, swimming on front and back and water safety. All skills are performed independently by the student.

Stage 3 (Intermediate) Students learn how to swim to safety from longer distances that in previous stages. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action. All skills are performed independently by the student.

Stage 4 (Advanced) Students in this stage develop stroke technique in front and back crawl and learn breaststroke and butterfly kick. Water safety in reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Stage 5 (Competitive Skills) Students in this stage work on stroke technique and learn all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke. Students develop stamina in front and back crawl, develop breaststroke and butterfly, and build endurance technique got deep-water safety.

Private/ Semi-Private Swim Lessons

We are currently unable to offer private swim lessons at this time, however, we anticipate being able to offer them again in the very near future! We will change our information here and also post on Facebook when we are offering private lessons again.

Placement Testing

Placement tests rarely take more than 10 minutes and are done by our certified water safety instructors. Call 724.438.2584 for an appointment.
